The Tibetan Buddhist Canon is divided into two: The actual words of the Buddha contained in the Kangyur, and the commentaries on the teachings of the Buddha composed by the great masters (pandits) of India, that are contained in the Tengyur.
The Tengyur is the collection of Tibetan translations of works written by Indian Buddhist masters. It comprise texts on the Abhidharma, stories of the Buddha’s previous lives (Jataka Stories), and other texts.
